An Escape Into The Mountains

Hi and welcome to my blog! I am very excited about starting a new photoblog that will be unique and give the reader a bit of a history behind every photo. I hope the stories intrigue you or at least are interesting enough to accompany your coffee and toast in the morning. The overall story will be in black and the specific story for the pics will be in red. Furthermore on to the show.

The pictures below were taken in Platoro, Colorado. It is a small town way up in the mountains of Colorado, with some of the best fishing, hiking, sight seeing and any other adventure you may seek. I have grown up my whole life traveling to the "Sims Cabin" after my grandparents bought it many years ago. I love hiking, fly fishing, four wheeling, and enjoying the outdoors.

This picture was taken around dinner time. My family and I were eating dinner and we looked outside and saw one of the horses from the town. He was enjoying the grass in our yard, so being the photographer I am, I went out and capture one of the coolest shots I have taken. The sunset was beautiful and so was the horse. The combination of the two makes for a unique picture.

This picture was taken around sunset. I walked outside and looked to the sky and was amazed by the colors. It looked as if the sky was painted in blue and grey. On our barn/shed sits a mobil horse, I felt that this would be the best foreground image to set on top of such a mesmerizing sky.

Nothing excites me more than waking up and siting on the porch and taking in the view. You see nothing but beautiful mountains and a clear sky. You feel the brisk mountain breeze that makes you feel fresh and alive. One thing about the cabin that I greatly enjoy is the fact that there is no electronics. No TV! Can you believe that? Just board games and a radio for entertainment. I value the old idea of making your own entertainment. Yes I love watching TV and movies, but it is a great deal more fun to go out and experience something and interact.

One of my most favorite/frustrating activities while at my cabin is going fly fishing. I love getting all the gear on trekking out into the wild and trying to catch one of nature's most elusive and smart creatures. I swear that the trout up where I fish can distinguish between what is real and fake. One time I threw a fly right in front of a fish and I saw him nudge it out of the way, almost as if he said, "Excuse me sir, I see you, don't even try it!" But once you finally do catch one, the thrill of catching and lading him is a rush. Within my family we also have something called the "Big Fish Stick" in which everyone records their record fish caught. It will be my goal to be #1 one day...and if you continue to follow me, I'll be sure to keep you posted.

I could continue for hours about my cabin all of the adventures I have had, but for now I will stop. I hope you enjoyed reading and seeing some of the things I have got to experience. Please come back and read other adventure stories. Take care and I will leave you with a few more photos for your enjoyment

A cabin that is located high up in the mountains. It is called Kerr Lake and it is quite a trek. It is straight up hill on the way up and straight down hill on the way down. Hikers beware...the hike to this lake is treacherous!

This was taken while my family and I hiked to a riverbed for a chance at catching some world class trout. As you can see, the view is quite amazing.

This little fellow sat outside the house and the only way I could capture this without scaring him was to shoot the picture through my screen door. The screen door creates a smooth soft feel.
*Did you know that on soap operas they use a similar technique when shooting actors that want to hide blemishes and wrinkles.

This eagle was perched high up on a branch. I found a great view through the trees that created the perfect frame for such a majestic animal.
